Updating the BIOS without Windows or a disk drive
I want to upgrade my CPU, so I needed a new BIOS revision. Which is not easy, considering I run Linux. And that I don’t have a 1,44 disk drive.
So I looked around. Boot disks are easily available. Problem is that they usually require a second CD drive (which I don’t have either) for the BIOS file or a modification of the ISO file (which didn’t work at all with my standard software).
In the end I settled for the Ultimate Boot CD, and it worked perfectly. The important thing is that the UBCD has a FreeDOS configured to load into a RAM drive, so you can change the CD while it’s running.
I booted, ran the flash tool, and it all worked out. I can now buy a new CPU. Happiness!
