p300

There’s a new p300 release out - rev 619.
As you might not know yet, p300 is a file-sharing tool for LANs and VPNs that I co-develop with guruz.
Among the changes (I picked a few, more in the original release announcement):

Downloader UI updates more often
Manual discovering of other hosts improved
Possibility to manually add downloads
Better selection [...]

Short review: Linkin Park - Minutes to Midnight

I was a big fan of the first Linkin Park albums, namely Hybrid Theory for its aggressive nu metal (one of my first contacts with metal) and the Reanimation for its good remixes and DJ work.
But the Minutes to Midnight… what’s new? They have gone awfully soft, apart from few (one, two?) good songs there [...]

Saving energy

Some days ago I cleaned up with some of the cables lying around on my desk. I also reconnected some things differently. So now, the power supply of my external hard disk is permanently connected, even when the disk is not. It was just easier this way.
Still, I wasn’t happy with the thought it might [...]

Protection of data privacy

There’s only so much you can do for you personal data privacy.
In the research for my diploma thesis, I stumbled upon an employee of Alcatel-Lucent who is a member in a big standards organization. I know somebody from Alcatel-Lucent, so I knew about the last merger, and I was wondering if this particular employee came [...]

I’m deleted… - or am I?

In my recent crusade course of working on my data traces online I wrote to LovelyBooks (a book readers’ community) to have my account deleted.
I never got any reply on that, but today I noticed I can’t log in anymore. Which is perfectly alright, I just would have liked a little note to my mail [...]

Firefly

Okay, this is weird.
Here we have one of the best-est-est SciFi series ever. Something that is fantastic and superb from the beginning and even gets better close to episode 10. A series that unfortunately never saw a season 2, not even a complete airing of season 1.
AND THE DVD IS F*CKING 31€??? o_O
I’m in heaven. [...]

When In Doubt, Make It Public

Last year, Jeff Atwood of Coding Horror argued in favor of making conversations public more often (also: Maximizing The Value of Your Keystrokes). And I strongly support this motion, although he himself posted some negative thoughts.
What I noticed when thinking about/writing my last post is that personal conversation often helps in the process of writing [...]

Ubuntu 8.04.1

When checking the release date of Ubuntu 8.04, I couldn’t help but notice there is a scheduled point release (Ubuntu 8.04.1) just one month (June 5th) after the release of the LTS (long term support) version (April 24th).
It’s kinda bizarre when you think about the development/release process as a whole. Yes, Ubuntu releases always tended [...]

Early bird

I’ve really grown into an early bird lately. I’ve always had symptoms, but I’ve recently noticed that my life really is better when I get up earlier.
Currently I wake up on sunrise, which was about 6:50 this morning. I sleep 8 hours, and that’s my daily schedule (except for the days I sleep at my [...]

On interesting people

Goddamn procrastination. You can see by the amount of blog posts that I don’t really want to work today.
Yesterday at the gym I noticed a man with a kind of familiar slogan on his shirt. Was too far away, so I couldn’t immediately read it properly.
He looks about forty, maybe fifty, and has [...]
