Ubuntu 8.04.1
When checking the release date of Ubuntu 8.04, I couldn’t help but notice there is a scheduled point release (Ubuntu 8.04.1) just one month (June 5th) after the release of the LTS (long term support) version (April 24th).
It’s kinda bizarre when you think about the development/release process as a whole. Yes, Ubuntu releases always tended to have quite a lot of bugs when they were released (300 fixes/updates in 6.06.1 which was released only 2 months (August 8th) after 6.06 (June 1st)), that’s a problem with most software. Plus, Betas and RCs (release candidates) never have as many users on as many platform configurations as a final release.
But this is a release that should be especially reliable and stable. Shouldn’t there be more work done towards improving the dev/release process instead of fixing problems afterwards, and even expectedly?
I really can’t propose a way to easily fix this, I can just say it makes me expect a much less stable version for Ubuntu 8.04; Because, well, everyone knows there’s time to fix stuff after the release - in the point release.

Except of some awkward bugs it’s quite stable %-) And there are tons of new cool things
Maybe that was just the best compromise between new cool stuff and LTS.
