MovDB2

I’ve always used a self-written webapp for managing my private movie collection. The app - “MovDB” - has been written prior to 2003, and is not really maintainable anymore (though it works quite well). It’s in perl and there are some features that I don’t need, and some that I need that are not in yet.

Now, I know I have more than enough to do with the last run on my diploma thesis, p300 as a big software project and my social life…

Problem is, I’ve had this programming itch for about half a year, maybe more, now… I need to write a new MovDB app: MovDB2. It’s always in my head, I have to start now.

So, today I started writing the specs and doing some planning work. It’ll be an open process and I’ll try to make my development open from the start. Let’s see how it turns out.

I can really see the software engineer in you. :-)

Do you plan to import data from your old database? Because it sounds like a lot of work to get all your stuff in there.

Absolutely, import will be a front row feature.

The old database has 1.230 items (336 movies & 894 episodes in 47 series) and covers more 417 GB of data (or more than 1 month of playtime). No way I’ll type it all in again. :D
