party_playlist

And another one of my small apps is finished.
When you have a party at your house, it’s sometimes difficult to find out what music people would like to listen to. But we got this great last.fm network, right? Why not use this information to create a special party playlist? And that’s what my code does.
Find [...]

movie_collage

Maybe (or maybe not) you know that situation: You’re with friends, have a laptop full of movies (all legally purchased of course), but you can’t decide what to watch. Of course you have an ugly file list, and maybe a file manager preview but it’s just all now very usable, because it’s not intuitive.
Wouldn’t it [...]

Two tiny projects

I have an evening with friends coming up, so I’m starting two new tiny software projects.

An app that will read my movie collection, find images for the various movies, and draw a collage of it so that people can choose more easily.
An app that will read several Last.fm profiles and then create a rhythmbox playlist [...]

MovDB2 cancelled

Due to scheduling problems (new job, p300, …) I decided to cancel my movie database 2 project. I just feel much better without it constantly lingering in the background. The precious coding time I have really needs to go into p300 right now.

CodingClues in sidebar

As you can see, I added the CodingClues.eu feed to the sidebar.
CodingClues.eu is my other blog, where I’m among a couple of geek friends writing about code.
It’s kinda like Coding Horror and Daily WTF, but more focused on code and applicability.
You can also copy the feed link from here, and add it to your RSS [...]

The Next Generation of Neural Networks

I just saw an awesome Google Techtalk with Geoffrey Hinton.
Hinton is a professor of machine learning at the University of Toronto.
In his talk, he showed a new type of neural network, which quite impressed me. Instead of only relying on putting data into a neural network and changing parameters here and there, he uses the [...]

Announcing CodingClues.eu

When your profession is something you care about dearly, you should live it to the fullest.
That’s why I have started a new software development blog with two friends.
You can find it on CodingClues.eu.
We’re three software engineering students, and wanted to do something in the sense of CodingHorror or DailyWTF. To talk about code and our [...]

MovDB2: Project start

I started my MovDB2 development.
Some infrastructure decisions have been done, detailed on Infrastructure.
I also created the project at Google Code.
Let’s see how it turns out. :]

MovDB2

I’ve always used a self-written webapp for managing my private movie collection. The app - “MovDB” - has been written prior to 2003, and is not really maintainable anymore (though it works quite well). It’s in perl and there are some features that I don’t need, and some that I need that are not in [...]
